Loving my curls!!

I haven't curled my locs since my first set. That was a couple of years ago. They didn't come out as bouncy as I wanted them to be and plus they were shorter. This time around I'm more experienced and know that these styles take time and patience (which is something I've developed over this process).
This time I used thinner rods and mousse. They came out gorgeous!!! I love curls. My attitude changes when I'm wearing them. I'm more fun, bold, energetic and confident. They say when u look good u feel good.. its so true.

What I did was...

1. Wash my locks with Shampoo... Then squeezed as much water out of them as I could.. my hair is thick so it retains more water.
2. Placed my hair in a pony tail and let a row of locs hang down. I pour mousse (about the size of a golf ball) in my hand and moussed the row from roots to tip. The mousse would help the curls last longer.
3. Working on each loc one by one: I used JML firm wax to twist my locs like I normally do. then I took a perm curling rod and curled my loc around it starting from the end. I would continue this until the whole row was finished. Then proceed to the next row, at mousse to them, twist and curl each loc..

Its too simple.. I left the rods in for a day to let them dry completely. I don't have a dryer for my hair so I had no choice. Its been a week and they are still holding up. I've been keeping them up by adding spritz, recurling them and have them set for a few hours. But I love them so much. The attention I've been getting from them is mind blowing. Ppl love them as well...

Gone 4 a minute... Now im BACK

I can't believe that the last time I posted was a year ago. I've really been slacking. Anyway nothing much has changed in my lock maintenance routine. I've been washing and twisting like I normally have. I've been using the same products on my hair. The only thing that has changed is the length of my locks. They have gotten so long. They look beautiful. I couldn't be more proud. I haven't dyed my hair again. I want to but it will be a hassle seeing as though I will need a lot more dye than last time.

I'm noticing that its a little harder to manage my hair now that its long. Washing and twisting is no problem. Drying is a hassle because it takes thirty minutes or more to blow dry my hair. And even then its still a little wet.

Styling my hair is another issue that requires a little patience and time. Its hard to find inspiration these days. My hair has become a little heavier (naturally). eventually I will have to go to the salon and have them style it. The washing, drying and twisting I can do myself because they charge more for that. back in 2010 if you asked me about going to the salon to style my hair, I'd say ” what?!! Nope! I can do it myself”. Granted I can but you get tired of doing it all the time lol.

Anyway, here are pictures of my locs...

Two year twist

So I decided to just twist my hair today. I was just too lazy to wash it.. I'm thinking about dying my roots auburn again. Today I just did a regular twist with JML firm wax and water.

I would spray the lock with some water to make it easier to twist then take to firm wax (just a little bit) and twist it then put it in a ponytail. Putting it in a ponytail helps to tighten the twist and hold it in place.. when I was done with my whole head I ran a blow dryer through the ponytail so that the water can dry off. I don't like the water to stay in because mildew can trap and give it a weird smell. So I always make sure I blow dry my hair and also not to spray too much water on each lock. Maybe one or two spritz is enough.. once I'm sure its dry I wrap it in a silk scarf and let it set for a few hours or overnight. When its done my locks are tight and ready to style..

As u can see from my pictures my parts aren't aligned.. but honestly I don't care.. my hair isn't perfect but neither am I. and besides perfection is boring and far too orginary. If my parts were straight they wouldn't be different from anyone elses hair.

Idk how I'm gonna style my hair tomorrow... Idk whether to put it in a bun, a high pony tail or to just keep it down.

We will see..

Yay for Sock Buns and crinkles

Dear loc blog,

I haven't blogged in a minute. For that I appologize. I've been so busy with work these past few months that I hardly focused on my hair too much. My hair matured around the perfect time too because these days I wash my hair only once a month..  Bad loc maintenance I know... But once I get in the rhythm of things again, then ill focus on my hair.

But on the flipside I have tried two need things when styling my hair that I've never succeeded in either of my last sets.. Crinkles (or braid outs) and sock buns. Ill start with the crinkles.

When I tried crinkles in my other journeys I failed miserably. Simply due to lack of patience.. I would wash then braid my locks. Leave them over night to dry then the next day take them down only to find that, not only were they still a lil wet (obviously), but they weren't crinkled. This time around, I washed, added some mousse, twisted them and braided them one by one tightly, then I put the braids in a nice lil updo, and let them dry for a few days. While my hair was looking good in the updo, it dried completely. A week later I took the braids out and had nice tight crinkles. Oh I just loved them. They lasted for two weeks straight! :D I will definitely do this again.

Now the sock bun is something more recent. I've always wanted to put my hair up in a nice sock bun because I've always thought they were cute. But my hair was never long enough. My hair now is shoulder length. I looked up on youtube how to do it. It was troublesome at first because my hair wanted to do its own thing but it gave in eventually. I want to get some hair pins with the pearl balls on them to make it look cute but I just settled for my rhinestone hair pin in the front for cuteness :).

When I find other styles I will write.. :)
